IMPORTANT NOTICE -
From Dean Black |
Hi all,
I wanted to invite you all this Saturday night to join me at
Simpson University (Redding) at 7:00PM This will be my 4th year
calling for this event. This is their annual faculty / student
body BBQ and orientation. We ( Sherrie and I ) don't make the
BBQ, but they have always offered us food, and have offered food
to others who attend. The BBQ starts around 6:00.
It is a "western theme" They have invited me to come down and
teach some basic Square Dancing. There have been between 150-200
staff, parents, and students each time I do this. There is also
"hay rides" It is held outside in the parking lot mainly because
that is the biggest place to set up for every one. This is a
high energy fun event. If any of you are available and can make
it that would be GREAT! Feel free to come casual, but if you
want to wear Square Dance clothes that's OK too. Most important
of all is to wear "comfortable" shoes. And obviously a "car
pool" would work.
Last year I had 1 couple come over from Prairie Squares to help
out. If there were a few more "angels" things would go faster. I
usually teach the simple basics, this year I am planning on
teaching them either "Grand Colonel Spin" or "Donegal" or both
depending on how thing go. And if I had a square (or 1 or 2
angels) then demonstration would be easier. It is a little
difficult for just Sherrie and I but we do manage. There is
usually a couple short breaks for Ice cream and or punch,
lemonade etc. We usually bring our own water, so that would be a
good idea for you. The students also like to do the line dance
"Cotton Eyed Joe" at least once.
If you can make it we could all get together afterward for a
Sundae/Pizza or something (dutch of course) While this event
does not necessarily generate any dancers to our clubs (Yreka /
M. S.) it does how ever, promote Square Dancing and could
possibly entice a student or faculty member to want to learn how
to Square Dance. And (for us) it is a refreshing night. We
always come back "dog tired" but enthused because of the energy
of the kids. Even if you don't want to stay for the full event
(about 9:00 PM) you could cut out and go over to the Frontier
Senior Center and attend the Association Dance with Lawrence
Johnstone, Bob Elling, Mike Nesham, Donn Thompson.
If you need, or want more info. (directions etc.) let me know
842-7031
Thank You Dean |

The North State Dancers
Association (N.S.D.A.) |
The N.S.D.A. was founded several years ago, for the
purpose of promoting dancing of all types; square, round, ballroom, and
country western dancing as a recreational activity and to further the
interests and participation of all dance club members. |
|
|
N.S.D.A. assists member clubs whenever possible to promote dancing in
the Northern California area. |
|
| Throughout the year N.S.D.A. sponsors fifth Saturday dances with
local Callers and Cuers and once each year in March, N.S.D.A. hosts
the Square dance jamboree. |
|
| The N.S.D.A. currently enjoys friendly working relationships with
other dance clubs and organizations throughout California and the United
States and is affiliated with the California Square Dance Council. |
|
| Since the inception of N.S.D.A. it has, and still is working toward
the goals first set by the founding members. |
|
